John Dominic Colón

John Dominic Colón (born in Brooklyn, New York) develops layered works on paper that integrate printmaking, photographic processes, and collage. Through accumulation and recombination, he constructs stratified surfaces that position memory as constructed rather than retrieved. His work engages themes of belonging, erasure, and urban residue within personal and collective histories.Beyond my studio practice, I am a co-founder of Third Space Studios, an artist-run space in South Florida that supports exhibitions, public programming, and professional development for artists. Through Third Space, I have expanded my practice to include curatorial projects, collaborative initiatives, and community building alongside fellow artists.Colón received his MFA in Studio Arts from Florida International University and holds a BA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago. He lives and works in Miami, Florida. His work has been exhibited at the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture (Chicago, IL), El Schomburg Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo (Chicago, IL), the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum (Miami, FL), Kaplan Gallery at VisArts (Rockville, MD), and the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery (Davie, FL). In 2023, he presented the solo exhibition Excavating Fragments at Visual Arts Gallery (Miami Beach, FL). He is a recipient of the Betty Laird Perry Award and the Berkowitz Contemporary Foundation Scholarship, completed the IS Projects Key Holder Residency in 2024, and his work was featured in the Summer 2026 issue (Vol. 58, No. 2) of the NACLA Review. In October 2026, he will participate in the Biolumina Art Residency in Vieques, Puerto Rico.
